HOW THE OTHER 60% LIVES

Obviously those figures are exaggerated. The people living there can’t be 250,000. And u have to know that the problem is not the living condition the issue is lack of gainful employment brought about by many issues.
The truth is even if you build good houses there and improve access to social amenities the rates of rent shall go high forcing majority of the people to move an create another slum elsewhere

well, are you a landlord there yourself? The UN report says majority landlords are kiyuks so are the kiyuk landlords collecting for Raila ama?And when Raila campaigned he said ,the land is owned by government and therefore noone should be evicted for non payment of arrears and he will ensure that happens if he becomes PORK now if he is the main beneficiary why on earth would he say that? You see this isnt a giyuk vs Luo thing as you’d like to believe, its a landlord - or fake landlord (because the government owns that land) and opressed overcharged dirt poor tenants. Its unimaginable to charge 700 bob for those shacks, its exploitation for a person earning a meagre 150 bob a day. The reason Kibakis plan was rejected was because tenants knew that if theres a slum upgrade , wakikuyu watamiliki hizo nyumba ZOOOOTEEEE and ofcourse it wont be 700 bob theyll ask for since ni nyumba za mawe not structures. Tena zitakuwa na stima and amenities. Stima alone kwa shack if connected by Mungiki is 200 bob, for these guys its not affordable. So basically they were just fighting homelessness. Its good to be objective and understand where the rest of Kenya is coming from. The richest counties are kiyuk counties, the poorest are opposition, the landlords are kiyuk in these slums, the tenants 2.5 Million of them are luos, luhyas, kaos. Its not rocket science and even after Raila is gone any other revolutionary can easy mobilise such large numbers of people. My advice to you is that if you are part of the opressing class by assciation or tribe ,go live where your fellow kiyuks live like Mathare. Bure utabear the brunt for Unye na landlords wa Kibera wakikuyu na huwasaidi kukula, you’re a sufferer like those Luos,Luhyas and Kaos.

Nairobi is 696kms squared , so slums cover 6% of that area which is 41.76 kms squared, now how may 12ft x 12ft rooms are those? at a minimum flat rate of Kshs.700 though the majority are not that cheap ; to make up for area taken up by footpaths and the latrines for pay, stages and the areas with no shacks. this is tons of money being made by a majority Kikuyu ‘landlordship’ off of land they dont even own, merely because well the govt is kikuyu and looks the other way as poor Kenyans mostly Luo,luhya,Kamba are exploited over mud, wood and mabati shacks may of which are dangerously close to railway lines and electricity lines. I can understand the kikuyu sycophancy, this is a gold mine who wants to lose these amounts of free money ? But the rest of us would like to enjoy our money without a budgeoning increasingly desperate slum population coming out in droves to destabilise and increase insecurity through crime. Things need to improve otherwise we will by extension also pay the price. The instablity after every 5 years during elections are just tremors, if its not handled the real crisis is imminent. If you want to understand the correlation check on the political stability of the CAR where over 90% of their population lives in slums vs say Botswana where housing is good,I doubt huko kuna slums.

I was a kid. we were renting. Best outcome that came out if it was my whole family being able to get asylum to a different continent by the year 2000.

The land originally belonged to Kikuyus that’s all im going to say.

Best solution is for Raila and finally good work can happen in Kibera.

The way things are going with this very human rights oriented constitution sioni ownership ikirevert to anybody , already the idea that the land belongs to government is in peoples minds, so infact the way Raila tells people to repossess the houses or not pay rent can not be contested legally because even for the Nubian community its a communally owned land. The best kiyuks can do is like in Mathare where one side of the river is communally owned by them and since theyre not socialists culturally like the Nubians they can have a feudal system.

What are those 50% unemployed doing there? Wamekataa kukaa ushago juu wameskia nairobi kuna pesa. So they come to kibera, ferk like rabbits and within a short while a household of unemployed parents has six kids. A kibera with half the current population is manageable.

The poor always find time to reproduce like rats. Does the Government have the right to stop them???

hawa watu wa majuu hu[enda kutumulika ndio wa feel better about themselves. During this Spain catalonia separation thing i saw how some section of people are living in poverty. they never show that in media
