DMX always had that mainstream hiphop with actual substance, uplifting & positive, unlike his peers who were all about money, violence, drugs and sex.
The secret Illuminati cabal that runs and totally controls the mainstream music industry didn’t like this at all and they tried to get DMX to pander to their interests but he wanted none of it. To make matters worse for both him and the cabal, he actually went PUBLIC in 2007 and spoke about this, making it clear that he would never ever sell his soul (see video below).
This was the beginning of the end for DMX. He decided to be a ‘loose cannon’ about these secret, obnoxious higher-ups, who of course weren’t happy with the turn of events. First, they started by destroying his image especially through the mainstream media which they control (remember the incessant arrests and incarcerations that started around this time) & then they started destroying his career by forestalling and frustrating his music output (see link example from @msalame grace → http://bit.ly/1JP9U10 )

It all depends on your definition of the same… There’s a difference between rap music and hip hop you better recognize this… Underground artists are still there and still delivering what some of you consider ‘hip hop’ Joey badass, Andre 3000 and the more mainstream ones Kendrick, J.cole and whatever… Things have changed though; lyrics, beats, the commercialization and all but hip hop according to me still lives and right now we’re in the Trap music phase!!

If, as DMX, I don’t wanna make the music they want me to make, I simply stop making any music, period. I don’t try to fight back by recklessly opening my beak. A lot of artists have gone this route and they are doing just fine. Plus as a star, your name has become a brand and can make you a coin in many alternative ways.
