There 's one I know she had her daughter at 18, soon after finishing form four. History repeated itself and the daughter became pregnant at 19, so she became a grandmother at 37. :(

Twelve children left home alone narrowly escaped death on Thursday evening when a fire gutted their one-room house at St Mary’s village in Kiharu Constituency, Murang’a County.

Neighbours saved the children as fire fighters later put out the blaze.

Mr David Maina, a neighbour said the fire started at 5pm and destroyed property in the house.

“Were it not for the fire fighters, the fire could have spread to all the other rental rooms,” Mr. Maina told the Nation.

The fire started after a two-year-old boy lit a stove to cook, as he was hungry, and the stove overturned, one of the children said.

The fire spread in the room, burning clothes, furniture and cereals.

The children, aged between one-and-a-half to 13 years live with their grandmother in the single room. Their three mothers are sisters.

Their grandmother, Ms Mary Wambui came home at 8pm after she was informed about the fire.

She said she was at work in Mukuyu market when the incident happened.

She is employed as a bar maid and has to work long hours to take care of her grandchildren as her three daughters had left them in her care.

Her daughters are also barmaids, she added and some of the children do not go to school as she cannot afford to pay their fees.

“I have no money. I am even forced to come home drunk to give me courage to face life and my grandchildren,” the staggering granny said.

She said property worth Sh120,000 was destroyed by the fire and she has nowhere else to go.

Confirming the incident, Njoguini Chief Samuel Irungu said he had summoned the three sisters and their mother.

He said he will order them to take the children to school or face penalties prescribed by the law.

I wish i could remember the book, once misfortune comes knocking it visits with its grandchildren. Its very easy to get trapped in the vicious cycle of poverty for generations since you interact with “pull me down” type of people. The daughters are doing what they know best, hata hizo kunguru ukijaribu kufuga utajua haujui. Unless the children are “rescued” they will definitely learn the ropes and get trapped in the cycle

Food is the greatest obstacle . Also the relatives may be poor and trying to survive also.
I have a maternal aunt who is a indiscipline case, she isn’t a drunkard but she is lazy, she dropped out of school in Std 6 at age 16, shortly she got paged and married, akatoka huko akarudi kwa grandpa, then she remarried, 5yrs later she left that man akarudi with 2more kids. Now she has four kids but on 5th husband, the kids partly attended school but not beyond std 3, mnachukua watoi she comes for them. Anataka wakae kwake you channel assistance through her. She has been jailed like 3times for not taking kids to school.
However much you would like to help them unashindwa.
I also got a kunguru/barmaid/former school mate she is on her 7th kid at 28 ukienda pub you cant know she’s that mileage. Some of them the best you can do for them is a hysterectomy.
