Just like everything else, it has both advantages and disadvantages. The forefathers of this country made the presidency a coveted prize to be won by all means necessary.

The ethnic-related problems of this country go deeper and back to the first regime in the 1960s. So as long the presidency is a coveted prize to be won or maintained by all means necessary, we will still be having problems every five years.

Suluhu ni BBI?

We’ve been promised a referendum that will likely create new positions like the Prime Minister, two Deputy Prime Ministers, Regional Governors etc.

All this in an attempt to dilute the current coveted price of the Presidency.

With the expanded positions, all the major tribes will have their man at the eating table hence reducing tribal jealousy.

Yes, the expansion of the Executive is a great solution too. It reduces the do-or-die mentality. However, we all know the real intentions of BBI nonsense.

The top positions in the Civil Service, State departments and Kenya’s foreign missions are dominated by members of the Kikuyu community, a committee of the Senate heard on Thursday. Public Service Cabinet Secretary Margret Kobia told the committee on National Cohesion that there are 417 senior-level management positions in the Civil Service and State corporations.

These include Cabinet secretaries, chief administrative secretaries, principal secretaries and all officers holding jobs in groups T, U, and V. Currently, there are 22 Cabinet secretaries, 26 chief administrative secretaries and 42 principal secretaries.
At the same time, there are seven officers in job group V, 48 in group U while those in T are 272, bringing the total to 417.

The Kikuyu hold 120 positions of the 417, followed by the Kalenjin at a distant second with 45 positions.

If resources were being allocated equally and no corruption then nobody would have worried about which tribe the leader is from.

But because that doesn’t happen, tribes which don’t have a representative at the leadership are left to suffer, habour anger and hatred

Federalism wont work in most african countries… The tribes are too small and too poor. Only in Nigeria could it work because the tribes are big and independent. Most African tribes are less then 10 million and poor, in Kenya the biggest kikuyus are just 8 mil, while in Nigeria all 3 biggest tribes Igbos, Yorubas, Hausas are 40+ million, and they are very tribalistic devided while most african countries are more integrated even in kenya. Federalism works well in Nigeria that the tribes are very independent, and the people like Igbos and Yorubas are hard working and ambitious. Igbos are probably the nr 1 entrepreneurs in Africa.

Federalism works in Belgium and Switzerland with very small populations

They are in the same situations as most african states… Most african tribes are small and poor and couldn’t manage bringing themselves out of poverty on their own… Those tribes in Belgium and Switzerland maybe small but they dont have the same history as these small tribes in countries like Kenya where many lost their generational wealth through colonialism like land which paved for generational poverty. Ofcourse if Kenya was the result of tribes creating a country they would rather have like federalism where they kept their rules on the local levels. Its also about culture. Look at the Igbos, after the Nigerian Civil War their wealth was taken from them but today they have still managed to become the most successful buissness people in Nigeria because they are entrepreuneral minded, they were that even before the civil war which was one of the reason many people in Nigeria in places like the north were weary of Igbos, because they would move up there and start buissnesses and become rich. They do it today all over the world. Go to China and you will see Igbos are the ones engaged in buissness there.

zaeni bana, kanyangeni hao mabibi zenu wakuwe baby factories

They could bring themselves out of poverty if the government wasnt focused on stealing everything

Kenya is bound to become a puppet kingdom of the queen of england.we,ve never tasted sovereignity.we are still the whiteman,s slave who self-regulate.

Poor assertion, Democratically everyone stands a chance to presidency.

lol… That is not why most african tribes are poor. Its because they lack enterpreneurship minds. Government cant make you rich, only you can. Plenty Foreigners are coming to Kenya and making money because locals are not taking advantage of the opportunities. In places like Kenya the buissness are dominated by non africans while in Nigeria its the opposite which is what i love about nigerians. And I just told you the example of igbos, read picture below.
