I know they don’t, and that’s a big problem. When in the future they ascend to those same offices they’ve learnt to disrespect, how will they run things? You must respect the office you hold to do the duties attached to it with dignity, so that whoever takes it later will feel compelled to measure up and even transcend your achievements. That is what leading by example does. For instance, can you imagine a foul-mouthed Obama? As a leader, there are certain invisible lines one should not cross, because the followers will not see them either–they are followers.
There is truly a very big problem with the way we have played politics for generations. We have skewed priorities. Name calling and infighting seems to be the hallmark of our politics, yet we continue to pay lip service to the real problems of poverty, lack of proper education, insecurity, unemployment, environmental degradation, a dilapidated health system, etc. This happens because we have this self-defeating tendency to see leadership in those who can shout everyone else down.
In my view Raila is just as bad if not worse. He only thinks about himself and most importantly the dream of being called PORK.
