When Moi was president, presidency was a deeply respected institution. Had Babu Owino called Moi mtoto wa Mbwa he would be fertilising some jacaranda tree in Alego Usonga today.
Moi was respected even by neighbouring countries. I remember there was a time Somalis came into Kenya and stole a military lorry or something like that. Moi gave them 2 weeks to return the things. Daily nation even started doing a countdown. Somalis returned the things.
When I was in college and had a chance to interact with people from outside Kenya they all had some very scary stories of civil wars. I remember this Rwandese guy who lost more than 20 relatives in their genocide. Peace is worth more than gold and I thank Moi for that
