The MPs, and other elected politicians are like that, because the people who voted them in are also the same. Corrupt. And the MPs know this and that is do this openly. In other countries even floating such an idea would be grounds for impeachment

A better idea would be to amend the Constitution to give SRC security of tenure, have them determine all public salaries without fear of being done away with. Otherwise as @Ubongo and @slevyn say tuendelee kula ujeuri wetu coz come next election we’ll still be here with the same problems.
Security of tenure alone is not enough, budgetary allocations for the commission need to be protected to prevent MPs from underfunding the SRC.

But it is true as you put it, aggitation is usually a result of sour grapes after having “missed out”.
SRC recommended that salaries of MPs be reduced and that one term Mps be paid a gratuity of about 8m. The guys went to court and stopped the reduction of salaries but are fighting for implementation of the gratuity. Talk if eating your Cake and still having it.
