The other thing is that eveolution is not really self perpetuating so that when there is cold you just grow fur to adapt. That is the original thought during darwin’s time before advent of genetic biology. Mutations occur all time and genes have very many errors and changes. The reason why you shouldnt breed with relatives; because you are likely to have similar genetic faults in your genome. When faulty genes pair up, they show in the phenotype and the children come with all types of malfunctions. Autism, club foot, brachycephally, malformed limbs, low resistance to specific pathogens and all other sorts of problems. This is especially if interbreeding is done successively. You actually could have genes for very many problems but the problems will not show up because they are covererd up by partners genes.
Now back to evolution, when genes mutate as they do all time, it then happens that a certain type of mutation is able to survive in the environment. That is how natural selection occurs. Therefore dont expect monkeys to be human sometimes later. the probability that their genes will mutate into what humans have is very slim. We are also a very random occurence and not deliberate.
Intelligence is also not the ultimate trait. Humans could die off and leave tortoises and fish ruling the planet if the environment becomes hostile to us but allows them to go on. There is very little chance that the human race will outlive microscopic life. There far more microscopic individuals living off you than cells you have in your body. So humans arent the center of the universe as they delude themselves.
