I have seen their api environment but it looks very limited and definitely inclusion of another language, like Java, C++ would make it much more powerful

I checked their site too and they have HTTP REST API support which means any language can be used. The libraries they provide in python, php, e.t.c are just to help newbies get started quickly

Of course doing it in C or C++ will be a pointless waste of time, just do it in any popular language used in server side scripting i.e python, php, ruby, javascript or worst case scenario java

true, back in 07/08 hapo was doing that, but I remember the gateway (I think it was done in c#) was pushing the messages to a sql server and one had to to get the messages hapo and push whatever reply to another table for processing, so it was mostly SQL stuff.

Lakini I think the basics is just to understand how to deal with strings in any language

Africas Talking has simplified all this for you … provide a callback url where they will be pushing the messages to your server and then you can process them in any language you prefer and reply to their REST API… they will do the heavy lifting, kazi yako ni kuprocess tuh
