After independence, we started out with mediocre policy makers. However, no efforts were made in later years to improve this lot. Instead, the mediocre generation continued to propagate itself by recruiting like minds in their ranks through favoritism, nepotism,tribalism, and corruption.Often, you will find quit high ranking government workers with no clue of how the world works. With such talents, it is no surprise that common sense seems to be non-existent in the public service. This element renders the entire population hopeless given that we are competing with a world that leverages on research-based solutions.
