Not digital…it used film.
Before 1996 or therebouts, Nation did not have the capacity to print many colored photos on its gathetis. It only became more common after they launched the ‘ultra-modern’ printing press (as it was then called) on Msa Rd and this new technology made it possible for them. I think such machines hizo siku were expensive coz I remember Sunday Nation sana sana ndiyo ilikuwa na colour photos in the lifestyle section.
