Wrong maths. SGR Kenya primary purpose was freight cargo service and passenger service is just a secondary purpose. Its a very unique railway project. A heavy gauge 24 million tons minimum, double stacked freight cargo service that passenger service.

The passenger service only pays wages. The money is in cargo service. Kshs 35,000 a TEU. We currently transport 1000-1200 TEUs a day. I haven’t seen the numbers for the general cargo transported daily as well.

Its a milestone. 2 million for a new railway line is a big achievement. We haven’t even scratched the surface. All the data collected and more studies will guide the schedule train times to increase capacity. Either more locomotives are needed or more trains. Its 99% booked averagely at all times.

Isiolo-Wajir-Mandera road will await a few years until the road construction is done to make the area safe to travel. Same thing happened with Isiolo-Marsabit-Mandera road. That new road led to improved security and people travel on it without escorts.

The agreement we signed with Uganda and China Exim bank is that phase 2B to Kisumu should be built simultaneously with phase 2C to Malaba and Ug SGR phase 1 to Kampala in under 3 years of construction. They offered a loan of Kshs 380 Billion for phase 2B, Kshs 120 billion for phase 2C and Ug Phase 1 at Kshs 280 billion. However President Uhuru at the last minute asked President Xi to consider giving half the funding as grants and the rest as loan. They therefore asked to study the numbers, consult with CCCC the SGR builder and decide before completion of construction of Phase 2A in June 2019. One of the top 4, President Xi, Vice President, Prime minister or Communist party chairman is due to grace its launch and by then that decision will have been made.
