You are correct… They are never the same… In fact, long before the DPF became mandatory for diesel vehicles for Toyotas, it was installed in UK market Landcruisers… Different regions, different specs… The ‘local’ vehicles are de-tuned to accept the low-quality sludge quality fuel that we buy here… else, they would stalling every time now and then…
KeBS has introduced pre-shipment inspection for Singapore imports starting April 2020, which could provide some assurance but buying from established exporters may be better. Low mileage doesn’t translate to a better quality car nor does high mileage translate to high-quality per see. Maintaining a car in Singapore is extremely expensive and owners may prefer to sell aging cars to African and Caribbean countries. Sometimes you still get the car inspected and it develops many issues after landing…Am importing one from Singapore which is landing this month, will give you feedback. Currently, fuel quality in Kenya has improved after the refinery in Mombasa was closed and products are imported as refined products. Of course adulteration happens but not as rampant as before. DPF can still be removed and ECU retuned locally, will cost about 50K.
Modified in what sense? Modified or tropicalized? Are we talking about aftermarket modification? Actually, vehicles manufactured for the Singapore market would fit Kenya’s environment all other factors held constant.
