Doc, used to follow u keenly kwa Klist. I have 50k to spend. Advice on AV Reciever to buy + Subwoofer. I want to give myself room to upgrade later as money comes. Please

Naona ushajibiwa tayari. In my opinion, 50k may not be sufficient to buy those two at once. A casual glance at http://electrohub.co.ke/audio-video/receivers.html shows a 5.1 A/V receiver going for 40-45k, leaving you with a balance insufficient for a subwoofer. My advice would be to go for the AV receiver now then save over a duration of time to get your subwoofer/speaker package till they’re enough for your system. I’d also advise that you go for a powered subwoofer rather than a passive one.

@danji1 cool. @Luther12 Thanks. What is your preferred AVR, ONKYO ama Yamaha? Also advice on good Speakers. I know there are many good manufacturers, but I believe in user experience to determine kaa stuff iko poa.

Ok. For me, this is what I’m currently using:

coupled to these speakers/subwoofers:

http://www.jbl.com/ES150P.html

It’s a work-in-progress, sina haraka. I’m currently thinking of adding these speakers to it:

So far, I’m very satisfied with the system.

@Luther12 Do the voltage standard for this Infinity Primusspeakers and JBL ES 150 subwoofer differ ama they are all 240V?

Speakers dont need their own power, the main AV to which they’re connected does that. Only powered subs need their own independent power supply.

Thanks for the info, najua na kusumbua bt nipatie the total budget and where I can get all the stuffs at once. Nataka kufunga hii biashara once and for all.

Zii, hunisumbui. There’s not a single website, which is why I gave all those ones. Specifically with the powered subs & the AVR itself, I kept off American versions coz their power is 110-120v, 50Hz.

Cost nayo I didn’t keep track as they weren’t all bought at once, just over a long period. Hata saa hii sijamaliza, I’ll be looking for back surrounds soon. What I’ve done is buy when they have sale promotions e.g. Black Friday, or over Easter & Xmas periods. Always remember: price is what you pay, value is what you get.

What is your advise on this model: Onkyo TX-SR444 7.1-Channel A/V Receiver ?

I’d say it’s a good receiver but one thing would make me not get it: it lacks networking capabilities. Haina Ethernet wala wifi capabilities. For these you’ll have to get any of the NR series.

If you look through avs forums you’ll see reviews of many other different brands and models.

The one with Ethernet or Wifi ndio my main priority, please advise the model that has one.

I already mentioned the NR series, from NR525 onwards. There’s also other brands, sio Onkyo tu.

Thanks
