I accessed the internet for the first time around '99, back then if I’m not wrong the only ISP was Africa online. I remember after a few visits to a cyber cafe, the attendant which was a very tech savvy job then asked me if I want an email address. Yahoo or AOL were popular out there and you couldn’t open one locally anyways, my first email address was [email protected]. The rbs sub domain was the cyber cafe at soin arcade, I doubt if tao had such sophistication of a cybercafe.

We used to have a Pentiun II in the house in around '98. Luckily enough we got the dialup credentials for Braeburn’s wananchi online account. I throroughly abused that account. I remember downloading stuff with Limewire, Napster and playing mp3 files. But it used to take me like 2 days to download 1 track on 56kbps connection…which half the time acted like it was 28kbps.
I also had a yahoo account, still do actually. I also had an account with excite.com…i used to chat up wazungus in those yahoo and excite chatrooms. Telling them how i want to shag…a couple even sent nudes via their webcams! The kawasaki those days was intense.
