Technology Taking Over

Audi was the first Car manufacturer to release a Level 3 Autonomous car with the Audi A8, who owns Audi?
https://www.theverge.com/2017/7/11/15952510/audi-a8-level-3-autonomous-driving-self-parking

they were even the first to get a permit to try it in New York a city considered hard for autonomous cars

incase hauelewi the autonomous levels then here is an explanation

[li]0: No automation at all. The human does all the work, even if there are warnings that pop up, like a Check Engine light.[/li][li]1: Driving assistance. The vehicle can assist with steering or speed in certain circumstances, but the human is still fully in charge of driving.[/li][li]2: Partial automation. The vehicle can take over steering and speed altogether in certain circumstances, but the human is still fully in charge of driving.[/li][li]3: Conditional automation. The vehicle steers, takes care of speed and monitors the road. The human is still required to take over when the system needs help.[/li][li]4: High automation. The vehicle can pretty much do everything, even if the human driver does not respond when asked to by the system.[/li][li]5: Full automation. The vehicle does absolutely everything a human driver could do.[/li][/ul]

Did you know that in 2010 TOYOTA had an agreement with Tesla to develop electric cars?

On 3 August 2015, Here Maps(Formerly Nokia Maps) was sold to a consortium of German carmakers Audi, BMW, and Mercedes. On 4 December 2015, the consortium completed the acquisition for 2.8 billion euros.

unadhani they bought this company to compete with Google maps?

This Year in January Intel bought 15% stake in that company. Intel and HERE said in a statement that they had also signed an agreement to collaborate on the research and development of real-time updates of high definition (HD) maps for highly- and fully-automated driving.

How about we look at patents, who leads in autonomous car patents

time will tell but I still insist tradition Car manufacturers are not lagging behind

Btwy Mercedes guy once said that the challenge of fully automated system is that in case of accidents who is to take responsibility? Which I think is a valid point as much as automated systems are ready they can’t be deployed until such issues are settled so maybe it’s going to take some time.

Halafu hapa Kwa AI and Machine learning, there are very few talents and the big tech are scrambling for them, just go to Amazon’s job portal then check the openings in the AI Section
Google is even scouting for talents from China

@Deorro yes, they have something but they are in the R&D testing phase, a consumer can’t go out to purchase such a vehicle yet (level 5). What Tesla have been able to do is accumulate billions of miles in real world conditions that they feed into their deep learning network and this intelligence can be pushed to their network of vehicles, and every Tesla rolling out as of 2017 is fully capable of autonomous driving with hardware enabled, they are waiting for regulatory issues. How long will Audi take to gather as much real world intel of actual customer driving mileage to push to their vehicles? With hundreds of thousands of Model 3s on the road adding to that intel, have to admit they have quite a headstart in activating full autonomous driving

What level in the Sae Chart will the Tesla launch at? Because level 5 is still a long way for us. Maybe in 2020 or if some breakthrough happens

They are hardware ready for level 5 with extra cameras, only there are regulatory issues that surround it. Once that’s cleared, switched on via a software update

That’s a Level 2 in the Sae Chart, the Audi A8 is way ahead of it

Para para papara:p:D:eek:, nimeacha shule mimi!

actually hapa kwa lawyers it’s already happening

soma hii BBC article

hata Mimi nimesoma. Technological disruption everywhere.

story ya car sharing and ride hailing is true. That’s where even Tesla is headed. and everyone might follow. Which means less cars being bought. Car Industry shrinks as a result. Are you not aware Uber wants to build their own self driving cars? They are already doing tests in California.

hata Apple wanajenga zao, everyone wants a slice of the pie.

Think Apple abandoned Project Titan or put it on ice

The new Tesla Roadstar 2, that thing looks dope 1000km from a single charge 0-60mph in 1.9sec even super cars can’t match that.

Then their semis are also rad

Juzi tu ndio some company claimed wamedev an SSD batt to last 500 miles and recharges in 1 minute

hii hapa https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/cars/879433/Fisker-electric-car-batteries-500-miles-range-one-minute-charge

Well until it actually gets developed and released to public, it usually remains vaporware, having a patent on it means nothing. Scientists have been claiming 40% solar efficiency but has always been lab conditions.

If electric cars are widely adopted, then oil producing countries will face it rough in the next two decades. What will happen to the petrodollar?

Most middle east countries already knew this that’s why you see countries like dubai are majoring in tourism and hospitality sector. So the tall hotels, indoor ice skating etc it’s just a way to attract tourists hence securing their financial future.
