Otherwise if your line of work doesn not require you to use some windows only based software, ama if you use the laptop only for browsing, word processing ad maybe movies then just use a Linux distro/OS hautakuwa na stress ya virusi. But if wewe ni msee wa Games and use windows only based software then use a good antivirus as told na Snap D. Hata mimi na Ugwiji wangu hulipia Av, the rest ni common sense ya kufuata good security tips. Only problem nimewahi pata ni Adwares when I use Firefox lakini hizi hutolewa in 2 minutes and ADW cleaner

I’ve downloaded a few ISOs today. Being overly cautious now I decided to scan each ISO before installing them. The same type of ransomware that hit me was disguised as Office 2016 setup!

Watu…wachaneni na avira…that bloody AV is free because the big corporations use it to track some events on your comp…they essentially pay for it to be free.
Some time back that is what i was using…nikasema wacha nidownload dreamweaver na adobe photoshop…the thing popped up a few times…cant recall what the message was about…nikaignore.
The following day nilipata calls na emails from the service provider whome had in turn gotten calls and emails from california from Adobe. Ati this machine on your network is downloading an illegal copy of their software. Sijawai tetemeka hivo tena…luckily ni mimi walipata so nikasema nitainvestigate…nikaformat machine mara mbili hio siku na kuiweka ndani wa drawer.

mimi I have been using one antivirus for the past 3 years. Bitdefender and I always pay for it, sijawahi kuwa na shida nayo thats why I always refer it to people

AVs send back a LOT of data to their makers (URLs, files, Comp details, etc) but I doubt they would sell that kind of data to third parties. A lot of people would be madly pissed about it you’d hear it from Mars.
Most likely you downloaded one of the torrents that was being watched by Adobe. It’s not the first company to do that. Movie Studios are doing the same thing right now. If you are not using a VPN when torrenting it’s just a matter of time before you get one of those threatening cease and desist warnings.
