My laptop fell from my desk and this part became undone. I don’t know what it is or what it does.
Despite the’handicap’, my machine continues to work kama kawaida I’m sure the part had some function.
What is it called and what is it’s function in a laptop computer?

That is called a webcam…normally found on top of the screen.
