How do I know?
I once managed a campaign for one of the Nairobi hoodlum politicians and we wanted to use the bunge guys for propaganda and to hype up our mukora. I recall one particular short bungerian on whose palm I placed a 500 shilling note and he quickly folded his palm and the note was swallowed in the ensuing fist that exposed black oily cuticles. A sewerage unblocker or a Fundi wa baiskeli, perhaps? On his weather beaten face two dim eyes shone and a mouth opened to speak, “Boss, cheki, digi kwa mfuko uniongezee. Niko mbaya! Digi kwa pokee huezi kosa ya sufferer.”
