Poor military tactics by the General leading the KDF operation. If I was in charge I would send out a whole battalion,.. divide into several units—the smallest element being a platoon headed by a Major or Lt Colonel—to lead the APs, GSUs, anti-terrorist police, RDU, etc,. These groups use a great variety of flags, occupy strategic places in the forest or villages . They scatter all over the landscape and yell, thus distracting the enemy's eyes and ears. Or, both night and day, on all sides, they shoot off isolated shots to cause panic among the enemy soldiers and fatigue their spirit. Then, afterward, our army appears in full strength when the enemy does not expect it and disperse this stupid al shabaab by a flank attack. ..simple..that will protect the ecosystem in the forest

Flown past lamu a few times. First off those sides have the best untouched beaches. Compared to the rest of the coast line which is mostly occupied. Massive amounts of mangroves between lamu and malindi and stories of shifters.

If those sides were safe it'd be an amazing place to spend a lot of time
This description right here, is the reason the military is conducting such a dumb ass operation. Ati you alert everyone that you're gonna bomb the place with the aim of bombarding and flushing out the emaciated cushites? This, like the Sugoi staged machete man, is to attain something in the guise of military operation. Someone somewhere has spotted the pristine real estate in lamu and is determined to go for the jugular to get it. Nothing ever 'just' happens in government. Its always meticulously planned.

Military tactics should be left to the military. War is not a game of checkers but chess. Ask yourself why it takes months to flush out surrounded ISIS fighters in Iraq.
Simple...ISIS are using innocent civilians as human shields so carpet bombing ISIS held areas is not an option.

Saying that military tactics should be left to our military is quite laughable, look at what a bunch of terrorists did in Westgate and Garissa University and how our military handled both situations. Our military is uneducated and archaic and it's no surprise that they still use stone age tactics in the 21st century.

not every soldier is a commando, even in the "best" militaries in the world. that is why every army has specialist units. punguza sinema.

The question was why it has taken the powers that be including the US military, Russian military and others, including Hezbollah so long to defeat ISIS in their major strongholds like Raqqa and the simple reason is that civilians had been held hostage by ISIS and the fight against ISIS had to be focused.
ION, Assad has not done much to fight ISIS.

Russia ,Iran,Hezbollah and now Lebanon Army primary duty is first to keep Assad in power By any means. Raqqa is the last place they would want ti battle. If you look at the map of their operations they are all about creating a buffer zone to Damascus. Rem when Turkey shot down a Russian plane ,RUAF made it impossible for Isis to export oil via trucks until Turkish powers bulge.
