Deal or no deal

A paper titled “Deal or No Deal Strictly Business For China In Kenya” by the world bank points to the destruction of Kenya’s manufacturing sector by a heavy influx of cheap Chinese imports which have increased from 12% to 23 % over the last two years. It also mentions that the Standard Gauge Railway will ultimately be a debt sink of Kenya to China if we don’t save our manufacturing sector. Data from the Kenya Bureau of Statistics shows that the manufacturing sector has declined in contribution to GDP from 10.7 % in 2013 to 8.4% last year.
Food for thought

link please

Peana link boss, first we are Kenyans, then Talkers. @spear come kiasi, kiasi tu.

Given that world bank =the west who are really feeling threatened by chinese, I would take this with a pinch of salt. That said, by mistreating hosts, and over importing Chinese laborers, Chinese are playing into this probable propaganda

Are you surprised it is coming hot on the heels of acres of (i believe sponsored) China hating content in the standard?

Gashwin, you know am not an anti jubilee person right? You know I don’t follow journalists propaganda right? So when I tell you that the standard report was completely true it’s not out of malice. It is because I have independent information source that collaborates this.

@ranny…I have a question for you. I once heard or read somewhere that these people have made many young girls pregnant and then kept moving from site to site and because they look alike to us, many did not own up to their parental responsibility as they could not be traced. Do you know if this is true or false?

I don’t know about this. But unless these girls are minors or mentally disabled, then I say it’s willing seller willing buyer. No blame on the Chinese

Young vulnerable girls, I gathered but I have no evidence to go by.

@spear ni umbwa kazi yake ni kulamba matako ya wezi wa Jubilee

Kuramba hivi?

Sijataja mtu mimi

Who would be the target audience of such a bs paper.

World Bank?

The Economist pia are cooking their own

At least the West were sensible enough to setup some of their manufacturing concerns in Africa as a result of which some Africans would benefit from knowledge transfer however marginal, China man just manufactures substandard goods in China and dump in Africa. Lets call a spade a spade, we need to be cautious with both the west and east unfortunately our leaders are myopic and self centered to see any mischief even when revealed by the rivalry playing out in the open.

That bit on manufacturing its pure truth. Many factories have closed shops coz of availability of substandard cheap Chinese products.
Dont just look at China, remember sugar, maize are killing local industries. They come from elsewhere.Rai will also cut down all our trees.
We used to make local tiles ,that industry is also under threat. There is no deal here.Kimwana akitoka atawacha watu wakilia mamayooo including you @Swansea

Niaje bingwa.

Propaganda or not our manufacturing sector is down, we import way too much for a country of our status. We need to leave the importing to the middle east desert countries. We used to export very well some decades ago.
