He had an A in KCSE 2019 and wants to be a neuro-surgeon! Discuss!

The majority of the top KCSE candidates interviewed yesterday want to train as doctors. What do you think about this? Does it mean that all the top candidates have a calling to treat others and nothing else? Does scoring a straight A mean that you are a talented doctor who just requires to join medical school to be that top doctor we all need?

On the other hand, in the light of things in Kenya, what do you tell these children considering that, in my opinion, we are in a criminal system where those who know how to commit fraud rule the society…

And do the girls know that they will have to work extremely hard to resist their legs being opened by some old hyenas in order to survive and rise in their organizations (whether they are single, engaged or married?)… Actually this also applies to a lesser extent, to young men. If you resist, your career stagnates or you are sacked…

If you follow the narrow path, you will find yourself being ridiculed by your former class-mates who dropped out in class 6 but now ride in Landcrusier V8s and live in the leafy neighborhoods… as you ride matatus or Vitz if you are doing well?

I am just provoking our thoughts and not in any way under-rating the efforts of those young kids who excelled! Thinking outside the box…

Diversion kidogo: What really happened to Starehe Boys? Did it die with Griffin?

Wacha jamaa wa A- '94 akuje atuambie. @Bingwa Scrotum deals with medicine “codeine”

They could also get into computer science and tap into the vast potential of IFMIS manipulation with the treasury bigwigs. Conversely, they could train in civil engineering with underground drilling specialization. The vaults are waiting

Because it’s the best career ever? If it isn’t the immense contribution to society, respect/prestige, $$$, potential to become your own boss, a job that can never be outsourced etc.

Because medicine seems to be the only career in Kenya that you are guaranteed of Jobs immediately after graduation. Uliza hapo mtaani wale walipata A high school na wakaenda Ku pursue Engineering, actuarial science and any other course requiring plain A besides medicine, ni wangapi wako na Kazi. Mimi najua Engineers wengi walikuwa wametop high school, wako hapo industrial area wanafanyishwa kazi kama slaves, na wanalipwa peanuts.

Not that all A students are gifted to be Doctors, ni job opportunities after Campus ndio ina limit their options

In kenya doctors esp GPs are grossly underpaid.

Hao top students wako kwa shida. Majority come from poor backgrounds. Kuna wenye hawataki kufanya medicine, wanataka arts. Lakini hakuna mtu ako ready kuwalipia fees. Lazima wafanye ile course jab itawaita wafanye. Ju fees ni kidogo. Mwishowe watakua doctors lakini hawatapata satisfaction kwa life.

Wasted brains

True… but the real source cash in Kenya is through corruption and shady deals, that are executed by salonists and small-time clerks, can the doctors beat these?

Kwanza it is the rich kids who will enroll into medicine and many other courses with a C+ and with their backgrounds they will get the best available opportunities through the networking of their parents… and that is where the crisis is: Kitambo, all one needed was to really excel in academics and their lives are changed… now even if you score an A , you will have to compete with many others from much better backgrounds for the same jobs, and you have to be very lucky to make it!

Ikifika sekta ya wizi, I think Kenyans are naturally corrupt, doesn’t matter the level of education. Ni opportunity ya kuiba ndio wengi hawana. Mimi najua doctors wengi huwa involved na shady deals especially hizo stuff za recruitment za police na jeshi… Daktari akipata 200K or 300K yake anakupitisha medical test

Sijui tungoje wamalize campo wa tarmac ndo tuwapee advice.

Not really, There are thousands of A Plain and A- guys who graduated a long time ago and are in the market…

On paper, yes, but they have their private clinics where one consultation of 30 mins costs 4k. Lab fees and pharmacy pia inaleta doh. You do one private house visit, 7k consultation. Medicine is extremely lucrative.

I know a guy who went to Starehe in the early 90’s. He told me they would get the KCSE papers in the third term. They didn’t have the KCSE label or anything. But you would revise the paper and weeks later you would be doing the same paper in KCSE. The papers would be part of continuous assessment tests.
When we were in campus I didn’t see the brilliance of some of these people who went to top highschools in Kenya.

Even Precious Blood, Riruta and Pangani are nowhere to be seen? So proud to see my alma mater producing 76A’s! Wooow!! Girl power. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think that is one of the reasons they lost it… they are heading towards Garba Tula High School dust bin, because the more a school fails to be mentioned in the top scorers score the less the chances are of attracting top brains in KCPE

About UON ni Ukweli. naskia medicine there are more parallel students than those from jab. lecturers wanatengeneza billions

Kenya High School and Alliance High School are the only schools that have always performed well throughout history…

Alliance Girls ama?

Unakumbuka Sunshine Secondary School? They are nowhere these days

Its not, highly stressful and long hours yes. With my several muguka dispensing stations i can top their salary na hiyo ni side hustle.

Hii ni straight out thievery.
