Streptococcus pneumoniae meningitis has the highest incidence of about 61pc and a Case Fatality Ratio upto 12 times that of Neisseria meningitidis. In-hospital mortality for S. pneumoniae meningitis is about 25pc. (this is what kills Kenyans). More reason for routine pneumovax by GoK to all.
The Meningitis Belt part of Kenya is dealt with by GoK accordingly.

Muhimu, visit a competent hospital always, at least let them get the diagnosis right and fault on the sensitivity of the organism to routine antibiotics.
Nonetheless, you can still have the jab its never a harm.

Everyone should get pneumovax ? I thought it's only for babies, those over 65, or people with certain chronic conditions?

In Nov 2014 i lost a lady I really loved. Alipatwa na stray bullets hapo Nakuru akienda job. My world literally came to a stand still. I could not think, I could not work, I could not do a thing. I prayed a lot. Took up activities that kept me busy, talked to people. To date, the memories are still fresh.

Brother, cry if you have to. Mourn her, usidanganywe na mambo ya "kuwa mwanaume". At the end of the day, you will feel very much relieved like I am, after letting it out. God has His will. Trusting Him and reading the Bible to know Him better will give you peace you have never known.

May she R.I.P and may the Good Lord see you through these trying times.

Thank you Talkers for the emotional support. Ateast I have got tactics to handle the sitation. I have seen some of you have through such situations. Some even worse. Thank you again for being my source of encouragement.

I also had some mild form of meningitis awhile back, had serious headaches, my neck and spine stiffened and jaw locked in a matter of hours. luckily I had a hunch of what was happening and i went to the hospital (I visited 3 hospitals in one day!!!!) the first two did tests and all came out negative for bacterial infection and was given pain killers (Misdiagnosis). I later learned that the tests cant detect the bacteria since the infection is in your spinal fluid. this requires extraction of your spinal fluid and not your blood. The third one treated me based on the symptoms I had and that's how I survived. they put me under antibiotics drip and got better. Most people decide to sleep it off and that is when it takes most of them. the govt has to raise awareness of this scourge because most people underestimate it and less than 1 week after infection, you're gone.
