Hey folks, I am curious to know how many of you are involved in programming and development and whether it is a viable career path?
As a background, I am en electrical engineering student in my final year , I wanted to do CS…but the government thought otherwise.
I will graduate next year, but at this point, I think I want to ditch my current field for computing/IT related fields.
This begs the question. Wangapi wenu mnatumia code for a living? How is the industry in your opinion? I know basic python syntax but haven’t built anything yet.
The computing field is evergreen, anywhere you go on earth. What’s surprising is that you haven’t built anything yet. Quit mucking around and build something before the close of 2018. Then build 10 more before you graduate. Doors will be flying open.
Exactly. Build stuff and preach about it everywhere (Medium/Twitter etc.). If you get skilled enough make PRs to open source libs or even make your own open source libs and again preach about them. If you do this you’ll get whatever entry level coding job you want.
Another option is to go to a coding school e.g. Andela and let them get you up to speed in 6 months
Programming and development is a very viable career choice. With proficient skills in programming and software development you can take advantage of the many well-paying developer jobs on the freelance market.
If you don’t have the skills, consider getting an open university education. Sites like edx.org, coursera, udacity offer you the opportunity to learn programming at little or no cost.
