THERE is a way in which Raila Odinga uses Kibera slum dwellers for therapeutic treatment of his political wounds. How?
An aged former US President suffered a disease called Alzheimers (google). He loved cleaning his swimming pool and to keep him busy, the secret service would throw leaves into the pool for him to remove. Just as he was about done, they would throw in some more and he would continue removing them on and on.
Here at home, Im told a retired senior politician with a problem of some dementia loves going to his farm to admire his many beautiful cows. His handlers take him to the farm at 8am to see the cows and by 12noon, he will have forgotten. They take him again to the farm and again in the evening.
Raila Odinga has no mental problem but a problem of ego. His mind has stuck to the imagined presidency since 2007 and he can't accept the fact that it will never come to be. To treat that problem of disappointment and frustration, his handlers always drive him to Kibera. Its closer home, has easy media access and he will find a ready crowd of poor, hungry fanatical supporters, the kind any "president" loves.
He will come out of the car roof and wave as he is driven through the filthy slum. Being in the slum itself gives him intrinsic joy. He sees a people completely dependent on him. A people who will for example easily swallow a cooked statement like the voters were 3.5 million not 7 m. And with his chain of MPs cheering behind him with tongue in cheek, the old man gets a good therapeutic nursing.
IF I was Uhuru, I would construct for him a mini State House somewhere, for him to visit regularly. His therapy is now a matter of national security.
