The sign for a street named after Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama has been pulled down. Tanzania had honoured the Harambee Stars captain by naming a street after him in Dar es Salaam on Saturday. But Jembeka Festival protested the decision, saying due process was not followed.

“Street names are recommended by committees who then present the suggestiong to sittings of the Ward Development Committee. If the WDC approve the name is forwarded to the Committee of Finance, Councillor’s Committee, Dar es Salaam City Council, Regional Consultative Committee and the office of the regional head then published in a gazette notice,” it said in a statement on Sunday.

Wanyama, who is on holiday in Tanzania with his friends, was honoured on Saturday after attending a local match. The eponymous street leads to the Kinesi Stadium and was unveiled by the mayor, Boniface Jacob.

Mafala walingoa!

Alisema pesa otas vijana wakajibu YOLO na wakamwambia avae skati the downward spiral began

Apparently every team he played for got relegated… True or false?

What are you trying to insinuate, baba will never win?

What happened to his brother Mariga

Our xenophobic neighbours. All Kenyans are generalized. If that was the case they would simply told him from the start and cancel the event. Waiting until after show uwaru na umama mingi. Wanyama is a very humble guy and a national hero. He made me like Southampton and Spurs since joining.

He is constantly injured and his club was relegated to serie C.
