The ICJ has today delivered its Judgment in the case (Somalia v. Kenya)

What exactly has somalia gained from this debacle??

Kenya stepped out of the ICJ and has retained its maritime border. And Somalia has made a potential enemy of a country that even now has its troops within its borders with the approval of the AU and Superpower USA.

The west is more concerned about piracy than Somalia claiming coatlines in which more pirates can operate.

What has somalia gained apart from a ruling that cant be enforced. Does somalia even have a Navy?? Wako na fishing boats and pirate canoes pekee

I get your point but why did Kenya want the boundary bent in the first place?

The border kenya wants was agreed with Somalia in 1979. Even look at the maritime border with Tz. Its straight as the kenya somalia one should be and was agreed upon with the somalis

Somalis want it now coz its suspected theres a large quantity of oil hapo.

Kweli kabisa. It is actually the Europeans who are pushing Somalia to annex that portion because Kenya refused to give Europeans rights to drill in that area.

:D:D

First thing we should close daadab with immediate effect. Jeshi itumwe we kick them out without notice. Hio ICJ ni kangaroo court.

The icj has ruled that there was no such agreement, the oil prospectors watakuja na oil rigs zao escorted by military frigates kutuchokoza. It’s not so hard to imagine the kenyan navy arresting foreign workers for tresspassing in its ‘territories’, something that would lead to a diplomatic dispute which eventually spills over into a military standoff. Or it could be the case that somalia will be forced to sign another mutually beneficial treaty with us but that might be too farfetched.

Believe me the west wont bring their warships hapo with their propectus. It doesnt work that way especially with democratic countries. They will try to manouver behind the scenes diplomatically. It wont get to the point of warships.

Zile siku za gunboat diplomacy where the brits could send a single warship to coerce the sultan of zanzibar by firing canon on his palace ziliisha

When they bring their oil rigs, it would be a very stupid strategic mistake not to have a warship nearby in international waters.

Who won? I see the boundary was put through the disputed area. Why are people saying kenya lost yet mimi naona the disputed area was divided 1:1.3 in favour of Kenya. I listened to the judgement. bonobs here are discussing without perusing the judgement to understand. If kenya lost, somalia also lost

Thats what am saying bro… they wont bring their oil rigs. They’ll try to manouver behind the scenes.

Even France tries to keep a facade of democratic countries when dealing with its former… sorry… ment current African colonies

This will probably depend on how far uhuru means to go to cede territory, remember we have spent 40 billion on a port that could now stand useless with no access to these waters.

This was a no-win for Kenya. We didn’t have a case.
As much as the border Somalia is drawing looks stupid, it was the original one.

But we are the mightier nation. We should extend our border all the way to Jubaland actually.

Hatutambui uamuzi.wa korti bandia!

I disagree. This ruling is binding for life. We can purport to use military power to reject, but soon they will have their own military. In fact they have partitioned the property to Turkey which is already prospecting in the area. There’s nothing we can do against Turkish military. Already today there are Chinese fishing ships inside Kenya’s maritime borders and we dont raise a finger. You can look them up on maritime radar.

Considering what Kenya was claiming, then Kenya has lost a lot. Sketch:

The ruling is binding only to those who recognize icj. And in any case, does icj have an enforcement arm?

Kenya could be pragmatic and do a deal with the Turks if at all they are prospecting.

Chinese may be fishing (if true) but thats different from another country claiming jurisdiction in your waters.

It doesn’t matter. We went to court. That was the mistake. That activated a series of evens we couldn’t control. Mali imeenda. Premium tears left on us.

Have you read the case from the beginning. Or ICJs past rulings. There’s hundreds of them. They ruled by agreeing to a legal dispute, we acknowledge their jurisdiction. And therefore a arbitration procedure gets eliminated. Whether or not we attend from then onwards. We had the option for outside settlement before the start of the case.

Now they don’t have an enforcement hand. But this ruling holds not only today but a hundred years from today. Somalis military may pass Kenya’s 30 years from today. Our empty threats will remain just that. And now no international oil firm will prospect for Kenya in the disputed zone. Because they will be sued in international court by Somalia.
The reason Kenya dropped out is they realized they had fucked up. I think they were bribed into going into the case by pirate money. Who was the AG and lands minister who agreed to the case.Hao ndio wezi.

For me… the ruling did a huge favor for our navy guys. Already we have Manda base upgraded to a full permanent Navy base. Now expect a huge increase on defence budget allocation and massive spending particularly on the navy. We will soon start seeing the acquisition of frigate’s, Corvette’s, OPV’s n what not. Force projection is now a priority.
