Many of these stories are hogwash. Even at Nairobi Hospital that sort of bill is unlikely UNLESS one has undergone major, major surgery. This is score settling tuu!

ICU daily kwa hizi private hospitals haikuwangi less than 100k…Ongeza hio surgery ifike 200k within hours of being admitted…Lab tests, Pharmacy, Coomernina etcetera another 50-70k…24hrs almost 300k inanuka…

300k is what i earn in ten months

Ehti!?!? 10 months?

Gross or Net?

From experience we took our mum to Karen hospital like 4 months ago, she was complaining that she would hear her heart beat like literally ikipump so we said labda kuna heart problems , at the same time she had a broken hand with plaster alislide Kwa nyumba, doctor gikonyo mwenyewe checked on mum, 1st examination to check cjui nini on treadmill mum was unable to run for 10 minutes just ya plaster bill 67k, they said because that examination wasn’t successful they will go to the next one, a simple surgery, a small part on your hand or hip will be cut open a pipe sent to the heart and check if everything is alright, duration 30 minutes, Bill 120k, if mum was to be admitted over night, a executive room in Karen ni 30k a night,
After all this mum was alright only problem a lot of acid juu she was talking a lot of medicine,
All in all around 200k in few hours without being in icu, but consultation fee of 115k is a bit on the higher side but the rest is very much possible.

Pray that you don’t get sick to require admission for a few days, you may never make it out of the hospital as a result of the shock you will suffer from being informed the accumulated bill. But again we have developed bad habits of taking our old relatives to hospital for admission to allow ourselves time to enjoy Christmas or other holidays at the coast without the inconvenience of an old relative. And hospitals have taken advantage of this.

A family member of mine was admitted at aga khan high dependency unit 7 days for Kshs 600,000 after suffering from a stroke. There was no surgery performed or mechanical ventilation. The cash had to be paid upfront before they could even be admitted. It was worth it in the end, but it was evident at the time that ability to pay was the highest priority on their mind. They could’ve downplayed that part because we had not indicated that we couldn’t pay; at least make people feel that they’re not just a cash cow.

Very sad.
What gives me jitters sometimes is when a ‘seemingly’ healthy person goes in for a routine or one-off check-up and does not leave alive.
An Engineer in his 50s was ‘rewarded’ for his dedicated service to the firm. He was gifted a free full-body check-up.
Prior to that his was a pretty regular life.
Two beers at the local jioni, nyama weekend, Sunday church. Hardly missed a day of work, save for the yearly leave.
Ugonjwa ilikuwa homa.
But when he checked into hospital everything went South.
Mara the liver, mara the heart.
The guy was dead in 3 weeks.

This is uncontrolled greed, ati excutive room of 30k per night. Should private hosp be allowed to continue this way as if seeking healthy care is a luxury. A guy i know had an accident along karen road and fainted, he was riding a boda. He later regained consciousness only to find himself in Karen hosp. By then he owed them 4k for first aid. When they asked him if he could afford for xray and other examinations. Hehe jamaa hata hio 4k hakuwa naye. He had to call relatives for help

Hapo si alipona mara moja na kutembea ata kama alikuwa na fracture?

He lucky he had no fracture but his ankle joint was badly hurt

Why do you say that? If someone is nearly dead and they know it, the doctors can ‘attempt to save his life’ for a night and make a killing.

Fundi wangu wa mawe takes home 6K a week! Change professions.

unafanya nicheke bana na ni story serious.

That is the price of being able to say ‘Karen Hospital’ and ‘Dr. Gikonyo mwenyewe’. Avenue hospital in Parklands would have cost you 10k tops for all that, and perhaps improved your mother’s health.

Dr Gikonyo is a fraudster.

Been on the receiving end of this one too many times.:frowning:
